A new day, a new dawn

I started this blog quite a while back in a Management of Information Technology course with Catherine Seo. I am now returning to revamp and re energize my online self. In addition, I will be connecting my personal blog to my new Brandeis blog on service-learning! World... here I come.

Last MIT Class Blog

After listening to the class presentation on Kiva.org I think I am going to start chronicling my own social entrepreneurial process for the business I want to start. I think it is a really good idea, and I already have my blog space to use!

This class was great! Over all I learned a ton...and some of it I didn't even realize right away, but figured out through my presentation and paper preperation. Using the final project to apply the class material to an actual organization, field, website, etc. was really helpful, and we got it two fold with the other groups presentation. I feel like I know the basic IT needs of an organization now, and helpful models to refer to. The power point presentations are wonderful and document everything I feel I might need to know in the future.

My awareness about resources that are available has been greatly heightened. First, learning about blogs and creating one has been really fun...and useful for the future. Second, learning about website development has been really great...and I will definitely utilize this soon, possibly even this summer. Lastly, all of the online resources that I have awareness about now through the class, the blogs, and the projects we did is really comprehensive.

I really enjoyed many of my classmates, and what they had to offer to the mix. The enthusiasm behind ideas, organizations, and what we have learned is excellent. And our professor was very relationship oriented, giving personal comments that really boost your ego...this is especially good when your in a detailed, technologically oriented class. Thanks everyone!

DID THEY KNOW

A student just sent this to my email, it raises questions I myself have raised. And reminded me of my dear Rwandan friend, Claudine.

Did They Know

Did they know that there

actions would be studied

world round years later?

Were they aware that every

morning noon and night their

actions were to be taken notice

by the whole world?

That their actions would change world history?

How did they feel at that time?

How did their thoughts make them feel and what

motivated them more,

the feelings derived from being a mass killer

or what it felt like to continue?

The feelings the thoughts gave them

or the thoughts the feelings gave them?

Were they killing for the

cathartic release of insanity

or because their thoughts seemed so correct

their thoughts seemed so logical

that it felt good to kill?

What was it like to participate in the Rwandan genocide?

What was it like to look at the lists of names

and give death commands and

to receive death commands?

Was there ever a moment when

just the sound of the words in the air

seemed out of place during the 100 days?

What was the pathology;

a desire of unity;

seeking the truth;

or metaphysical emancipation?

They were trying to start something or they were trying to end it.

Did they know that they had

dove fully into insanity

and they could not get out; were

they just saving their own skin;

or did they love it and were

consumed by the anger?

We need to consider this to prevent it from happening again.

Return from relaxation...

Well break is over...back to work! I am looking forward to the Tibetan food that I will be eating for dinner.

I have so much work to do in the next six weeks it sometimes makes me want to scream, or cry, or laugh, or run...far away! But after I stop complaining I realize that I love it and while I can't wait for summer to come, I don't want it to come at all. It will be hard to say goodbye to this wonderful place and the wonderful people after such a short minute in life. But it will be exciting to take the next step and stay in touch with a global network of friends, peers, and colleagues. Blah, blah, blah, right?

As for MIT: I am enjoying this class, but it is hard to stay concentrated on the topics of discussion with so many other things to do. With so many courses at SIT I try to find the connections between all of them, to create an ongoing dialogue between everything rather than random ideas about leadership over here and thoughts on sustainability over there. Lately I have somewhat veered away from that initial goal of finding connections as each class goes in new and exciting directions. There are also six classes to build links between, which can be a bit overwhelming. All the while I am learning a ton.

I am not really enjoying the book. It is hard for me to focus on reading things anyways, so while information technology is somewhat interesting to me, I would rather read about human relationships. It helps to try to apply ideas about human relationships to technology, but it is not quite the same. While the book isn't my favorite thing, the articles and cases that we are reading are pretty enjoyable. Looking at present day issues like Google and Viacom bring things into perspective, while the cases offer practical ideas for our future positions.

I look forward to presenting the cruise line case with Mary, and I am anxious about the final project. While it seems educational and fun it also seems like a lot of work to do in the next two weeks!!! I hope we can get a good jump start on this today. I am also very much anticipating our lab on website development. See you all shortly.
